WILD

The 2020 pandemic is the inspiration for my work. As humans have retreated into their homes, many ecologies have grown quieter – from streets to shops to trails and the seas.  What this has created is a world where our nonhuman earthly colleagues have a chance to expand their presence. So, while

COVID-19 is a human catastrophe in many respects, it is a moment for nonhumans to thrive.

My collection reflects on how "nature" is coming to the forefront against a haunted human existence. I create layers intertwine to achieve this feeling of the haunted, using cotton, wool, and flowers that I construct by hand other materials, to create textures through embellishments effects that are at times vague and.

The embellishments take many forms. In one iteration, I construct blooming flowers with leaves and stems -- Chanhua in Chinese -- akin to a corsage, that I attach to the garment. Also added are textures of wool and yarn, which take a variety of forms, from flat discs to vibrant poofs of color and threads. Each of these details allows me to show how nature perseveres despite human challenges.

My collection craft uses highlights specific Chinese crafts, including embroidery, beading, dying, in addition to Chanhua, the craft of making flowers from pasteboard, wires, and silk thread. and Chinese intangible cultural heritage---Chanhua. As a Chinese , I also want to incorporate some Chinese elements into my works.

The designs reflect ere are many natural elements in my application such as ocean waves, moss, flowers, leaves, etc. The collection is largely fabricated from natural materials, with about 65 percent constructed from cotton. tc. In terms of material replacement, most of my materials use are natural materials as much as possible. Among them, cotton accounts for a high proportion of about

65 percent.

One of the core statements of this collection is how it is possible to We can design and live in and for a a future where humans see themselves very much aligned with non-humans -- what we call nature, and identify the work we can each do to protect and promote species equity.
